Our Garden

This year our garden is in the shape of a pizza. One of our goals is to attract more interest of younger gardeners. We will emphasize this as the season goes on.

  1. Today we planted Fort Laramie strawberry plants (which are an Everbearing variety). They were bare-root stock, right from our refrigerated root cellars. We also planted all star strawberry plants (Junebearing) about 18’’ on center in the row and spaced the rows 36’’ apart.
  2. More cool season crops were also planted. Carrots were interplanted with radishes so when we harvest the radishes in 3 or 4 weeks, the carrots will begin to develop and will grow on in the same row.

2 Tips for this week:

Interplanting saves space and gives a bigger yield and efficiency forlimited spaces!

Remember you will get a relatively small amount of strawberries the 1st year, but be patient because you will yield a much larger crop the second year and even more the third!
